“Success is going from failure to failure without a loss of enthusiasm.” - Anonymous
I caught this curious little guy pecking and poking and perfecting countless attempts at flying through the window despite getting knocked backwards every time. He didn’t seem phased by my presence just four feet away at the table inside, and he completely ignored my warnings that it was just not going to happen for him.
After witnessing several fearless efforts, I thought, “Does he really think he’s going to have a different outcome?” “Does he even remember the last one just 30 seconds ago?” “What is so mesmerizing about what he sees that he relentlessly keeps at it?” (I checked it out, and in his defense, the reflection is pretty convincing.) “Is he trying to tell me something?” And finally, after he’d been at it for almost an hour, “Is he ever going to give up?”
Over an hour later, he did finally give up. I regret I didn’t catch that moment on camera.
I admire the little guy, though, and not only for his yellow breast and indomitable spirit. For while he threw himself repeatedly into the alluring illusion when he had a wide open expanse of limitless fun and adventure right behind him if only he turned himself around, I couldn’t help but think that I have been guilty of the same… completely sober, I might add.
Green beer, anyone?!

I thought that was the definition of insanity…doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result or something like that…
No, that’s a P90x workout, Jonathan! Actually, I just didn’t want to mention the obvious, but thanks for making sure everyone gets the point… or at least one of the points!
I’m sure the bird also regrets that you didn’t catch is abject failure on camera. Lord knows we could all use some photographic evidence of our follies.
Personally I like to imagine what would have happened if he had succeeded. Though temporarily confused by the shattering of glass he would have settled down and enjoyed sitting on the couch, watch some TV, have a nice snack from the fridge perhaps even sing you a song. I think he knew what he was doing.
A cheerful Saint Paddy’s Day to you all – go easy on the cabbage.
